“To take part in the African revolution, it is not enough to write a revolutionary song; you must fashion the revolution with the people. And if you fashion it with the people, the songs will come by themselves, and of themselves.” -Ahmed Sékou Touré
“We Asian and African countries need to co-operate in the economic and cultural fields in order to facilitate the elimination of the [backwardness] caused by the long period of colonial exploitation and oppression. Our cultural exchange should have respect for the development of the national culture of each country, and not ignore the characteristics and special merits of the culture of any country so that we may learn and benefit from each other.” -Zhou Enlai

As marginalized peoples, cross-cultural communication through art enables us to internally share our peoples’ resources, tactics, and strategies to build a better future together. The creation of new cultural works is an essential part of our strategy towards liberation, as these works will incentivize and empower the masses, and will also be directly integrated into our educational presentations.
We believe that commissioning can serve as a powerful act of both economic and cultural solidarity. Our commissions are an active investment into our communities because new works will be directly integrated into our educational presentations and accessible public concerts. Each commissioned work becomes a valuable teaching tool for conscientização, while inspiring the youth and community members to connect with their identities through making art.
We commission 3W composers and creatives of all disciplines who explicitly reckon with themes of political protest, revolutionary thought, and marginalized experiences and histories.
If you would like to be considered for a commission or have a score/sample to send us, or if you are willing and able to help fund a commission, please send an email to bandungduo@gmail.com.
